Job Description

Main Purpose of Job

Use HOYA Surgical Optics (HSO) analytical, marketing, and sales data to effectively estimate future product demands and to implement and run the S&OP process. He/She will lead demand planning duties including estimating future product demand at detailed level, analyzing inventory flow, developing forecast models, and ensure our company’s operations are timely, efficient, cost-effective.


This role holds people and budgetary management responsibilities.


Key Duties & Responsibilities

General and Task Management

  • Inventory management, all inventory related reports, budgeting process for each quarter budget.
  • Work with finance to ensure budget purchase plan can be supported vs the factory capacity
  • Work on Demand / supply balancing with S&OP on a monthly basis to ensure supply balancing
  • Run the S&OP process, summarize actions and follow through on key supply/capacity decisions. Identify demand and supply gaps, find solutions to minimize the gaps with colleagues from SCM, Sales or other functions
  • Actively participate in any change activities such as new product introductions, site transfers, packaging changes, format harmonization, etc to optimize supply and minimize business impact from a supply perspective
  • Manage inventory risk and ensure that contingency plans are in place
  • Design, develop and implement flexible solutions to aid business efficiency, drive process improvements and add value
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure that any Material Requirements Planning system (MRP) or IT system in place is effective and that data is accurate and up to date, and resolve any issues as required
  • Ensure strategic and operational information, reports and metrics are available to share with others in the business as and when required
  • Report on achievement of targets and identify any corrective action


People Management

  • Manage, coach and develop a high performing team that meets agreed objectives, and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements
  • Set departmental objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports


Relationship Management

  • Take lead on internal and external relationships to ensure consistent, timely and effective communication regarding demand planning and inventory topics.
  • Support new business initiatives and projects and contribute to review meetings and change process. Ensure effective demand planning implementation takes place relating to the changes



  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or comparable education



  • 5 - 10 years of experience in supply chain and supply chain related positions in a regulated environment. Demonstrated experience in Demand Planning for international markets for a global company. Experience working with counterparts in other countries is preferred



  • Demonstrated skills in traditional and advanced techniques of demand planning using time sequence algorithms preferred.
  • People skills, project management skills (both written and oral), process implementation skills, budgeting skills and analytical skills that demonstrate the ability to recognize when system or staff adjustments are needed.
  • Proficient at process mapping, flowcharting, database systems, Excel spreadsheet, and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with medical devices and regulations
  • Proven management skills with the ability to optimize team performance and development
  • Skilled communicator with the ability to form and maintain good relationships internally and externally
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Results orientated and organized with the ability to plan, analyze and deliver against deadlines
  • Project management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail


Travel Requirement

  • Up to 15%


Working Conditions

  • Position based in normal factory environment with occasional travel. Able to work within a fluid and dynamic international environment.
