R&D Engineering Technician (Lathing)

This position is responsible to work with engineers in the design, research, development, and quality control processes. The Technician will perform routine tasks as well as special projects assigned by engineers.

Key duties and responsibilities:

• Primarily makes prototype products on lathe machines in the pilot lab
• Responsible for all activities in the IOL pilot lab working under the direction of the supervisor
• Conduct tests and experiments as directed by engineers
• Build prototypes and set up equipment
• Generate work logs and reports
• Evaluate product performance
• Perform repairs, calibration and maintenance on equipment
• Provide technical support for R&D
• Test products, processes, and prototypes
• Maintain lab environment, safety & cleanliness according to requirements and specs
• Follow best practices in lab work and maintain data integrity
• Ensure quality of work and data integrity

Education

• Minimum Associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

Experience

• Experience with setting up and running lathe machines a strong plus

Skills

• Excellent communication and coordination skills
• Proficient in MS Office and engineering-related programs such as CAD
• Strong written and verbal skills
• Working knowledge of engineering terminology
• Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
• Enthusiasm for learning

Travel requirements

• Sporadic travel will be necessary (<10%)
